Bastards on Parade "Shallow Waters" Self-released
Release date: 4 December 2012
Running time: 9:55, 4 tracks
I had already chosen my Best of 2012 EPs list when I got the brand new EP by Bastards on Parade. I’m afraid that I will have to modify the list, since “Shallows Waters” deserves a place on the Top5.
The guys from A Coruña intend to release a new album soon, but in the meanwhile they have issued this 4 track EP to whet appetites. The Bastards found their own place with “Tales from the Death Shore” and they are still sailing in the same direction. The best way to describe their identity would be the title of a Davy Spillane album, “Atlantic Bridge”. A bridge that goes from A Coruña to Boston. This bridge is quite obvious on the opening track, “Shallow Waters”, an amazing song featuring tin whistle, accordion and mandolin, and the new rendition of their crowd favourite song “Time to Go Out” ( BTW, great background shouts, excellent bagpiping and a kick-ass work by Davizón on bass)
The same bridge is more subtle on tracks 2 and 3, since they are more “Galician” numbers. “Old Man’s Booze” is my favourite track and I guess that it will become a classic soon. David sings with passion and is perfectly backed by a real Galician sound on pipes and top-notch electric guitar and mandolin arrangements. “Pastoriza”, a traditional member, is a tribute to their culture. Awesome rendition that I will file together with my Os 100 Pés CDs.
The legend keeps on growing. The Bastards are always pushing forward and their second album is going to be great. I have already listened to another track that should be included in a compilation album, “Landlord”, and I can say that BOP are both prolific and excellent musicians. Go ahead! It’s holiday season, so tell Santa to bring you BOP “Shallow Waters” EP.
Tracklist:
1 - Shallow Waters 1:44
2 - Old Man's Booze 2:15
3 - Pastoriza 2:23
4 - Time to Go Out 3:27
