Falperrys (Galicia) released their second album "Nova abordagem" last June 15th, 2018. The album is now available at Bandcamp as a Name Your Price download.

You can get it for free, but I'm sure that they'd appreciate very much if you could leave a tip.

Track no. 3 "Nove crozes" is a cover of The Wolfe Tones "Go on Home British Soldiers". Track no. 7 "Histórias da avoença" is a cover of The Pogues "Streams of Whiskey", lyrics by Skacha. Track no. 10 "Traginho de vinho" is a cover of Zurrumalla with a final inspiration from Soziedad Alkoholika. Track no. 11 is the well-known  "John Ryan's Polka". And track no. 11 "Nunca mais me roubam" is a cover of "The Irish Rover" (guests on this track: Rubén de Donramiro, Suso Soak and Sime Keltoi! on vocals, María de Gaioso on fiddle and Kg o Boticario on tin whistle). María de Gaioso also plays the fiddle on the last track, "Arousa".

As usual, some songs are already on rotation at Celtic Folk Punk Radio.

2018-11-24 LISTEN TO BASTARDS ON PARADE NEW ALBUM "Cara a liberdade"

Bastards on Parade are finally back! They've just released "Cara a liberdade" on the label Maldito Records. All the songs are sung in their mother tongue, Galician. Track no. 7, "Voltarei" is a rendition of Cock Sparrer "We're coming back", a song that Bastard on Parade have been covering in English at their shows. Track no. 9 is a Galician traditional folk song, "Rianxeira". The album is available on the following links:

Tras anos á deriva por diferentes caladoiros do país, con incursións alén por Berlín, Hamburgo ou Dublín, a tripulación do barco Falperrys vai a unha nova marea para outro traballo de celtic-punk ou como se lle chame. Encheremos a bodega con lances ás artes de Vinilo e CD, e nunha primeira virada arrastraremos 12 novas especies, para completar o quiñón con un bo puñado máis en formato acústico.

Para elo precisamos de nova tripulación/armadores, que nos axuden facéndose mecenas no noso proxecto en verkami. Llenaremos la bodega con lances a las artes del Vinilo y el CD, y en una primera virada arrastraremos 12 nuevas especies, para completar quiñón con un buen puñado más en formato acústico.

Para ello necesitamos nueva tripulación que nos ayude haciéndose mecenas de nuestro proyecto en Verkami. Recently I have got an e-mail from Pertuleizo Fuyjutino (thanks mate!) with links to some punk-folk / folk-punk CDs from Galiza and Portugal that are available as free downloads with permission of the bands.

The first post is about Rastreros, a punk-folk band from Chantada (Lugo, Galiza). Together with Os Diplomaticos de Monte Alto, they were at the forefront of the Bravú scene. More info about the Bravú movement can be found at wikipedia in Galician and in Spanish.

This is the band's debut album with some of their hits: the anthem "Tratorada", "Vida de Xan" e "O Sacristán de Basán". The band broke-up but they re-formed and released a 2 track single in 2013.

REVIEW - BASTARDS ON PARADE "Empty Bottles and Broken Things" (2013)

The long awaited Bastards on Parade’s second album was released last week and the band is already touring Europe. A couple of tracks off their previous EP “Shallow Waters” (the self-titled track and “Old Man’s Booze”),  the track for Carnage compilation (“Landlord”), one Galician traditional number (“Quen Tenha Vinho”) one self-penned instrumental (“As Marinhas”) and ten original new songs. “Empty Bottles and Broken Things” remains faithful to the band's evolution.  Their Galician roots are present and the punk-rock side of the band is stronger than ever too. In fact, the album has been mixed by Johnny Rioux (Street Dogs) and mastered in the USA by Dan Randall.

Apart from the well-known numbers from previous releases, my fave tracks on the album are “Drunken Haze”(a catchy number, brilliant bass, background vocals and pipes), “Bootleggers” (jumping accordion, r'n'r bass line and fantastic wo wo background vocals), “The Drifter” (it could have been a perfect instrumental, but it turns into a kick-ass song), “Weight of the World” (a great opening track featuring excellent guitar and mandolin work) and “Quen tenha vinho” (21st Celtury rock bravú).

Some of the songs are very short, less than 2 minutes, and no track runs more than 3 minutes. The CD running time is less than 30 minutes (like most of the Ramones albums) and The Clash influences can be heard on tracks such as “Weight of the World”, “Drunken Haze” or even on “Bootleggers”. However, the whole album is not a classic punk album, but a fresh and up-to-date punk rock album. This is due to the band’s own ideas and production, but also to Johnny Rioux work. Guitar, mandolin and bass sounds, together with background vocals, are the winners on his mix.  Perhaps the pipes and tin whistle sounds are a little bit hidden on the mix on some tracks. IMHO, an in yer face pipes/tin whistle sound would be needed in tracks such as “Outcasts” “Bootleggers” or  “The Drifter”.

The winds are blowing on the right direction and Bastards on Parade discography keeps on sailing at high speed. Besides, the Galician guys have signed with a strong German label that will give a boost to their career. Check out Bastards on Parade tour dates and don’t miss them when they are playing at your town. Remember, they are looking forward to delivering their punk folk shanties to the USA and Canada fans.
