Blackpint
are a six piece band from Ticino, an Italian speaking area in Switzerland: Remo
(vocals, guitar), Ivan (Vocals, guitar, accordion), Giacomo (bass), Damiano
(vocals, pipes), Sara (vocals, tin whistle) and Vito (drums).
The band was
founded in 2005 and they released a 3 track EP in 2009. All of those songs have
been re-arranged and can be found on “Orizzonte”, a 13 track album on which
former members Laura (flute), Michele a.k.a. Micottino (guitar) and Francesco a.k.a. Bache (vocals)
have guessed. The album, produced by the band, has been recorded, edited and
mixed in Switzerland and mastered by Dave Collins (Flogging Molly, Bruce
Springsteen, Sting … ) in Los Angeles.
Musically,
Blackpint are closer to the Dropkick Murphys end than to the Flogging Molly
end. Their trademarks are vocals duties shared
by two members, together with catchy chorus. The lyrics are in Italian and
there are no covers. And the eight page booklet includes all the lyrics and
credits.
The
strongest numbers would be “Sopra di Noi”, a song with a
great accordion and tin whistle tune and some DKM echoes; “Bocalli Rotti” a
fast-paced number featuring tin whistle
and accordion again, together with ”Brucia”, “Resisto” and “Scocca l’ora”, some bagpipes street punk songs.
Apart from
those tracks, there are two amazing songs with an acoustic twist, “Pensieri”
(featuring the tune Irish Jig that was made popular by Gwendal) and the
accordion backed “Bivio”, which is sung by Sara.
Italian
Celtic punk fans will appreciate this interesting album. However, fans from
other areas will also be able to enjoy “Orizzonte” even if they cannot speak Italian.

This sampler features three bands from countries whose samplers were already posted and one band from a new country, Rumania.
BlackPint are from Tre Valli, Ticino (Switzerland). The band was founded in 2005, by 3 ex members of PunkSeck, ivaN, Vito and Jack. After having looked for additional musicians, Laura and Sara joined the band.
The kind of music that the band plays is "Combat Folk Punk", a blend between folk music (usually Irish folk) and punk rock music. The word "combat" is added because of the political lyrics that they sing.
After a while the band began to write their own songs, thanks to the musical experience of the band players.

Hakka Muggies is a rock band based in Prague, Czech Republic, and was founded in 2002. Its music is strongly inspired by the folk music of countries with a Celtic tradition, mainly Ireland and Britanny (France).
The current band's line-up includes vocals, bodhran,flute, violin, electric guitar,bass guitar and drumset.

Paddy Murphy are from Steyr, Oberösterreich (Austria) .They play traditional Irish Music, blended with rocking, speedy, powerful, tuneful and mystical arrangements.
Folk and rock musicians meet to play an explosive blend of Irish Speed-Powerfolk, Celtic-Folkrock and Dublin Funk Grunge.
Their repertoire is full of songs about the Emerald Island, Irish rebels, the fight for freedom, love and powerful and fast tunes.
The five members, playing fiddle, banjo, mandolin, acoustic guitar, bodhran, drums, bass and electric guitar, make a sound in which traditional Irish songs and tunes, "cooked" with chili & pepper, are turned into party songs.

BlackBeers are from Oradea (Rumania). Originally, The Blackbeers was set up in August 1999, by Peter Moynahan (vocals, guitar, banjo, mandolin and kazoo) and Zoltan Biro (accordion, bagpipes and whistles). In october 1999, a fiddle player, Tunde Levay, joined them.
2003 was the year of their international debut, when they first got to play in Hungary, Belgium, U.K. and Ireland. At the end of the year a major change took place in their line-up when one of the founders of the band Zoltan Biro left the band and he was replaced by Johnny Doe who plays the whistles, the Irish flute and the bodhran.
In the spring of 2004, they recorded Cuig, their first studio album that was presented at several summer festivals and a pub-tour in October-December. At the end of the tour Johnny left the band and his place was taken by drummer/percussionist Misu Stana.
In 2005 they launched the new Celtic-Rock line-up and presented new lead-guitarist Norbert Scheck. But for the fans of traditional music they will keep an unplugged version as well.
