2016-09-28 VIDEO- HOIST THE COLORS "Mourners"
Hoist the Colors have released their video for “Mourners,” the title track off their newest album, Mourners, out now on Hardline Entertainment.
The band celebrates new album with dates with the Dropkick Murphys.
The clip was directed and edited by Travis Miller and shot all over Los Angeles, from Downtown LA to Dockweiler State Beach near the band’s hometown in El Segundo, CA.
The video tells the story of a man haunted by remembrances of things past. A found letter propels him on a bleary eyed, midnight adventure around the city of LA, searching for something he can’t quite name.
Josh Linden, the band’s lead singer and mandolin player, explains:
“With this video, we tried to touch on the major themes from the album – loss, memory, and searching to find a place in this world. Much of your life can be spent in the dark, trying to find a light at the end of the tunnel. If you look long enough, there always comes some point of redemption. That’s what we tried to communicate with the video for this song.”
The video comes hot on the heels of the release of Mourners, the band’s third full length for label Hardline Entertainment. The twelve tracks on this new record are brought to life by soulful melodies, driving punk rhythms, and a heavy dose of twang. Country influences – mandolin, acoustic guitar, lapsteel, and spanky telecaster lines – abound.
In celebration of their album release, Hoist the Colors has been added to 3 dates with the Dropkick Murphys for the west coast leg of their 20th anniversary tour. Tour dates are as follows:
9/29 – Tempe, AZ at the Marquee w/ Dropkick Murphys
9/30 – Los Angeles, CA at the Hollywood Palladium w/ Dropkick Murphys
10/1 – Chico, CA at the Senator Theatre w/ Dropkick Murphys

2016-09-25 ALBUM REVIEW - SISTERS OF MURPHY "Working Stiffs Unite!" (2016)
Sisters of Murphy "Working Stiffs Unite!" Silverdish Records
Release date: 5 September 2016
Running time: 47:12, 11 tracks
This is one of the most awaited albums of 2016. Sisters of Murphy were our band of the month in September 2014 and their “Holy Show (remastered) EP” was no. 8 at our best EPs for 2014. The seven piece band from Rochester, NY, have finally released their debut album and I must admit that it’s one of the most enjoyable albums of this year.
Mark Tichenor (vocals, concertina), Cedric Young (mandolin, banjo, whistle, pipes, vocals), Scott Austin (acustic guitar, vocals), Haley Moore (fiddle), Jona Chartrand (electric guitar, vocals), Rick Elmer (drums, vocals) and Bruce Lish (bass, vocals) released “Working Stiffs Unite!” last September 9, that is, Labor day in the USA. The album kicks off with “L.O.V.E.”, a fiddle and banjo driven kick-ass track that reminds me of the Fighting Jamesons. It’s followed by “40 Days at Sea” and addictive number with an amazing fiddle and tin whistle theme.
“One Word of this Kiss” starts with electric guitar and little by little the rhythm section, the fiddle and the tin whistle join in. Even if it’s a slower number than the previous ones, it works perfectly well.
The next song is called “Emerald Isle” and it has an American folk twist thanks to the fiddle and the banjo. After that song, Sisters of Murphy deliver another gem on the album: “It’s a Shame”. Celtic pop-rock at its best.
Track no. 6 is a brilliant Celtic suite: first of all, the uilleann pipes play an intro based on “She Moved through the Fair”. Secondly, the core of the suite, a poignant song that finally evolves into a rocking song featuring the “Morrison’s (Jig)”
The following track is titled “Jack Haggerty”. It’s a wonderful song with a traditional touch.
The title track “Working Stiffs Unite!” is not a Celtic oi!/street punk number, but taking into account its lyrics and the music, one could say that it’s a street folk song. A great song to sing-along. “Bring the power to the people / Working Stiffs Unite!”
“17” is not a Sex Pistols cover, but an interesting self-penned song.
Track no. 10 is a live rendition of the Sisters of Murphy’s classic song “Katie Dear”. Obviously, one of the hottest moments on the album. The last number is a radio edit version of “Green Over Red”.
“Working Stiffs Unite!” is a well-balanced album full of catchy songs. Apart from the “Morrison’s (jig)” on “Green Over Red”, there are no over-exposed standards. IMHO, a must have for music lovers. Enjoy!
Track list:
01 - L.O.V.E. 3:59
02 - 40 Days At Sea 2:56
03 - One Word Of This Kiss 3:39

2016-09-19 THE RAMSHACKLE ARMY LAUNCH NEW SINGLE “FOREIGN SOIL”
Local Melbourne Celtic punks The Ramshackle Army have been toiling away since the release of 2014’s debut album ‘Letters From The Road Less Travelled’. After a number of lineup changes and a US tour with Celt punk legends The Tossers, the band have finally returned to the studio with an arsenal of new tracks. With a new strong lineup, and faster more aggressive sound, the band will be launching the new single "Foreign Soil", on October 14th at the Bendigo Hotel, Collingwood. This will be the first new music released by the band in over 2 years.
"Foreign Soil" will be released for purchase and streaming on 21st September followed a Melbourne Single Launch on October 14th.
The Ramshackle Army have always found themselves in a small but close knit Australian Celtic Punk scene and been as well received in the US and Europe as at home. Late 2015 saw a month long tour of the US joining The Tossers and Gallows Bound as well as festival dates with the likes of Flatfoot 56.
Since then, the band returned home and immediately began writing a faster, more melodic and technical brand of Celtic punk suited to the new lineup. The products of this labour have been put down with the help of Sam Johnson at Holes and Corners (South Melbourne), previously responsible for the band’s first EP "Life Lessons and Drunken Sessions", and more recently for The Smith Street Band and The Bennies.
The new offering entitled ‘Whitewashed Graves’ will be out in November but the band are keen to get a taste out to the audience in the form of Foreign Soil, a fast aggressive banjo driven track representative of what to expect from the new RSA sound.
“We feel this is a major step in the direction we want to head and honestly the thing we’re most proud of. We can’t wait to get back out there after a longer break than we’re use to, and smash these out in front of anyone who’ll listen” said lead singer Gaz Byrne.
New EP Whitewashed Graves out in November with EP tour to follow. Stay tuned for more details.

2016-09-15 EP REVIEW - KORRIGAN'S CELTIC ROCK "Tournée générale" (2016)
By Celtic Folk Punk
On 7:26 PM
In 5 Reviews, 8 New Albums, Celtic Punk, Celtic Rock, France, Korrigan's Celtic Rock
Korrigan's Celtic Rock "Tournée Générale!"
Release date: 9 April 2016
Running time: 15:32, 4 tracks
There are a lot of Celtic rock and Celtic punk bands all around France. Obviously, most of them come from Brittany. But there are also quite a few bands in the East, mainly in the Franche Comté region. Some of them have already been reviewed here (FFR Celtic Fiesta and Shoepolishers) and the latest addition is a Celtic punk/rock outfit called Korrigan’s Celtic Rock: Jeff (guitar, vocals), Chris (guitar), Seb (bombarde, bagpipes, whistles and backing vocals), Nico (bass), Myriam (Backing vocals, bombarde), Kevin (drums) and Franck (sound). Korrigan’s Celtic Rock was established in 2007, and they have recently released their first EP, “Tournée générale!”.
I feel that the band’s name is simple, but effective. If you don’t know the meaning of korrigan, just look it up on Wikipedia.
The first track is titled “De la bière sur mon kilt (Beer on my Kilt)” and it’s a hard rock number in the AC/DC vein featuring guitars and tin whistle. The next number is called “Hypocrisie” and Seb switches from tin whistle to bombarde. “Putain de …” is the third track on the EP and my fave song: kick-ass bagpipes punk number that reminds me of the North American band Alternative Ulster. The EP ends up with the title track, “Tournée générale!”, another highlight. Once again, Seb plays bombarde on this 77 punk infused number. The approach is different, but I’m sure that fans loving Les Ramoneurs de Menhirs will enjoy this song too.
The Korrigan's Celtic Rock 4 track EP is a labour of love. It comes in a 4 panel digipack and has been recorded and mixed by Kevin and Franck. Besides, the artwork has been made by Jeff and Kevin. Feel free to contact the band to purchase a copy. And remember, these guys and lass are looking forward to bring their sounds outside France.
