LQR "10 Pinter"
Release date: January 9th, 2016
Running time: 41:03, 10 tracks
“10 Pinter” is the debut album by the Dutch band LQR. The six piece band had previously released three EPs and all of them were posted here.
Mark Kremers (vocals), Wim van Doren (guitar, vocals), Arjan Bogaerts (accordion), Paul van de Boomen (bass), Martijn Cuypers (drums, vocals) and Tim Maas (guitar, mandolin) released “10 Pinter” at the beginning of 2016 and the album has got rave reviews (for instance, that of our friends from London Celtic Punks here )
LQR have followed mainly a mainland Celtic punk approach. The music can be filed together with that of classic German bands, but there are some influences by non-European and European heavyweights of the genre too. For instance, the amazing “The Application” has a sound similar to The Pokes, but then the song moves to SIR REG’s territory. “Gravy Train” is another highlight, with a kick-ass electric guitar sound and a Fiddler’s Green twist. “The Race”, a song about the cathedral of motorcycling Assen, I guess, follows a similar path, as the sound is more guitar oriented and the Fiddler’s Green influence can be noticed too.
“Na Zdrowie” is an instrumental track with a polka sound à la The Shanes, and “The Flying Dutchman” gets at the end a cider fueled treatment reminiscent of the Canadian band The Dreadnoughts.
There are festive numbers to be enjoyed, like “Mis amigos”, a Mexican number than turns into a ska song, and the comedy number “Leprechauns”, another standout and personal fave together with the accordion led song “Misery loves Company". However, there are other songs where the lyrics deal with serious matters. Thus, “Bully the Bullies” is a great blend of lyrics and music with a slight The Rumjacks twist, and “Silent Witness” is murder ballad from the XXIst century
“10 Pinter” is housed in a four panel digipack with an 8 page booklet. Plenty of pictures, the lyrics to all of the songs, a small drawing and the credits for every song are included. The album has been recorded and mixed by Wouter Mollen at Studiobosrand and mastered by Jelle Goossens at The Mastering Factory. The design and the cover has been made by Martijn Cuypers (DDNG).
LQR have delivered a brilliant debut album. Every song is different, but all of them are top-notch material. These six guys have always recorded their own stuff and the fans should thank them for this gift. Once again, the songs are available for free from Soundcloud and once again I recommend you to contact the band and get a copy of the top quality digipack.
