VIDEO - SCRUM "KILLING TIME" AND MORE

"Scrum: The #1 powerfolk band from The Netherlands, combining the love for rock, folk and whisky in a mixture of honest, raw (punk)rock songs, ballads and traditionals and drinking tunes!

Early 2004 a couple of friends decided to start a band which would be based on their mutual interests in Irish and Scottish music and culture. Only a couple of weeks after their first rehearsel they were invited to come and perform at the Veenhoop Festival. From that moment on things began to speed up and a year later Scrum returned to that same festival, being welcomed by the audience as if they had been around for ages. Soon after that Scrum recorded a 5 track live demo, purely for promotional purposes. But the people who had been following Scrum so far found out about the album and “demanded” a copy for themselves as well.

This and the fact that the number of fans was steadily growing made Scrum decide to write new material and in December 2006 their first studio album “Pro Libertate” saw the light of day.“Pro Libertate” was being received very well by both audience and critics and soon Scrum would be playing their “straight in your face” gigs all over the country, very often being booked as the headliner of festivals.

In October 2008 Scrum performed at the Celtic Folk Festival in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, playing purely acoustic for the very first time in their existence. Irish folk heroes The Dubliners were headlining that same festival and singer Skottie and guitarist Robin were invited by The Dubliners to play along during their encore “The Wild Rover”.

The adrenalin rush accompanied by the enthusiasm of the audience that day made Scrum once again decide to release yet another mini album which they –by coincidence- recorded during their performance. Simply called “Scrum – Live Acoustic”, on this album the lads show another side of their musical capabilities and the idea of playing acoustic more often had been born.

In July 2009 Scrum were invited to play at the Skagen Folk Festival in Skagen, Denmark, where they performed 2 nights in a row with great succes.

These two shows, during which both audience and band were having a ball and the fan base being expanded even more, emphasised the power and transparency of Scrum. Only a couple of weeks later Scrum was being re-booked for 2010, playing even larger venues during the festival.

October 2010:

- Scrum release a new album entitled “Killing Time
- their first acoustic theatre tour “A Night at the Pub” is a fact;
- a brand new website is launched.

Scrum will keep on hitting the road as often as possible, with an increasing interest from venues and festivals in countries outside The Netherlands, such as Denmark, Belgium, France and Norway which the band will be visiting somewhere in 2011.

The Official Scrum website will be updated as often as possible so you can always find the latest news on the band, tour dates, merchandise and anything else that’s going on.

Please, leave a message in our guestbook if you feel like it or sign up to our very own FREE online fanclub magazine “The Post”.

Hopefully we’ll get to meet one another somewhere out there and if so, make sure to come over and shake hands after the gig. We’re always in for a good chat and a pint of beer!

Take care, Slainte!"

The story of the "Killing Time" Official video:

"Dear friends,

About a year ago Skottie decided it would be fun to write a script for a video-clip for what would eventually turn out to be our current single ”Killing Time”. After having been laying around for a while it has been dusted off. We came in contact with director/cameraman Site Steendam and asked him to take a good look at the script and consider taking part in this project. After having read the script Site agreed to take on the challenge of shooting a videoclip with the Scrum gang. From that moment on things went rapidly and after a short period of gathering props, looking for decent shooting sites and fine tuning of the script D-Day had arrived.

Because all the preliminary work had been done properly we have been able to shoot the entire clip in one day. Everything went very smootly and during the pub scenes which were shot in the evening we have had a lot of help from friends from all over the country who were so kind to come over to do their part as “pub crowlers”.

Then of course the editing part had to be done and after making some calls and sending some e-mails back and forth the final result is here to be revealed today! And we’re very proud of yet another chapter in the always exciting Scrum story!! As always we’re very curious about what you think of it and we’re looking forward to your responses!!

Scrum once again is going to try and get some attention from the Dutch “national radio police” which hasn’t been a simple task so far, unfortunately. But as you may know from Scrum: We’ll never give up! We’ll keep on going, head first, like we do on stage!!

But we’re calling for your assistance…

Our single “Killing Time” is available for downloading at the Killing Time - Single - Scrum -store as well as on Legal Download. If we join forces by downloading the single in a great number the ladies and gentlemen of Dutch radio can no longer deny Holland’s number one Powerfolk band and their huge fan base!! Don’t you agree it’s about time new bands get their fair share of airplay on the radio?

To go short: Order yourself one beer less and buy that single!

We really hope you’ll enjoy watching our videoclip and hopefully we’ll get to meet again soon, somewhere out there on the road, in The Netherlands or abroad!"
