REVIEW: SAINTS AND SINNERS "PUBCRAWLERS" 7" EP, DGR003 (2011)

Saints & Sinners : Pubcrawlers EP 7"
Dirty Guys Rock DGR003
Release date: January 2011
Running time: 13:17, 4 tracks

Saints and Sinners is a new band from Tours (France). The band released a demo CD (which was sold out) and one of their songs, "Blood, Heart & Memory", was included in the CD digipack V/A Dirty Guys Rock Vol.01.

This four piece (guitar, fiddle, bass and drums) has already played on the same bill with bands such as Jamie Clarke's Perfect or the Czech Pipes and Pints (in fact, they have played several shows together). Right now they are playing a couple of shows together with Bastards on Parade on the French leg of their "Tales from the Death Shore" European Tour.

Pubcrawlers” is a 4 track vinyl EP which is more folk punk than Celtic punk. My fave track is the first one, a fiddle-led catchy song with a sound similar to that of The Porters.

The next track , "Mac Ragan", features harmonica and is also stripped-down punk song.

No Way Layout” is the other song that stands out, a good sing-along folk punk song which can be filed together with some Boston punk bands.

The last track, “Saints and Sinners” have some Clash influence and is also quite enjoyable.

It is interesting to see that little by little the folk/Celtic punk scene is also growing in France.

A01 - Pubcrawlers 3:47
A02 - Mac Ragan 2:36

B01 - No Way Layout 3:17
