BLEEDING HEARTS NEWSLETTER - JANUARY 2011

All Change At Bleeders HQ

New Year brings an altogether new approach. Good news, new faces and also a goodbye.

Sadly, due to his various intense life commitments we have had to say 'so long' to Mark madfiddler Knight. We have parted on good terms and we want to thank Mark for helping us out of a big hole a couple of years ago when we had gigs to play but had no fiddler. If you recall, we had to do some sans fiddler.

However, in with the new... Lizzie Prendergast has joined us full-time. We have been shaking down new songs in January now and working out stuff for the long-awaited, and vastly overdue new album 'Folk 'n' Glory'. We ain't done there either... Ewan Porter (hyphen) Stephens will be joining us on the album with his mandolin and other bits and noises and fitting in as many gigs as his itinerary will allow. I guess that makes us, to all intents and purposes, a five-piece by default.

So me, Gaz and Gel want to say, hello, welcome aboard and we will keep rocking in the free world... in a folky way of course. In time, the website will reflect these changes - especially as we lack new video and those all important kitsch photos and biog to boot, so stay tuned to Bleeders TV.

Folk 'n' Glory - the new album

Songs are rehearsed (mostly, wouldn't be totally right not to fly by the seat of our pants of course) and recording dates agreed to kick off the recording. This album will herald a totally different approach to everything else we have ever done! For a start, this will be an album that is self-recorded in our own new mobile studio (it's a posh laptop with groovy plug-ins, sans amps and audio mixer) and self engineered by yours truly. It will have more instruments and more voices, more acoustic instruments and more electronics. Tests have been conducted to see if any of us actually has the where-for-all to go this route and it sounds pretty good, but be prepared for some surprises.

This album will be called 'Folk 'n' Glory' for a reason! It will reflect a return to some earthier songs, with more folky moments (the 'folk') but at the same time maintain that raw edge (the 'glory'). Here's hoping it marks a milestone in the bands development.

Our focus this year will be the new album - recording it, mixing and producing it and getting it pressed. Then marketing it and finally getting off our assess and gigging it. We therefore do not anticipate too many gigs in the early part of the year so we hope to pick up the baton later in the year on that score.

A Plug

Right now I would just like to give a plug to a mate of mine, Dave Maclean. He's written a book about some rather natty cats and their little gang who enjoy life to the full and learn some lessons along the way while trying to avoid a few things too. It even has tons of musical references in there and yes you guessed it... The Bleeders are included. It's called 'Dogs Are Daft' (I don't think they are personally but it's a great title) and you can get it from Amazon. Buy it, it's a great read for adults and kids alike - 'cus Dave, like The Bleeders, is poor and needs the money too! I am not on commission or any fee before you get any daft ideas.

We is on i-Tunes

Those of you who are missing our earlier albums will be pleased to hear they are now on Spotify, as well as being available to download from iTunes, Amazon MP3, Play, 7digital, and many other fine vendors of digital music.

The forum

Or blogspot as it is now called is still going (not so strong recently of course) with mini inside views of life on the road, we hope you have read them and enjoyed them. I'll keep them going and let you know how the album progresses too.

Finally

We hope to see some of you, all of you, new friends, old friends, lost friends at a gig soon, when they eventually happen, so don't be strangers!

Foxie
xx
